We have been fans of Le Creuset and Vermicular for quite awhile. At first we read a cooking blog, learned about the LC brand and started to build up our LC collection. Later we got interested in waterless steaming, an interesting way of cooking. When we made more dishes by waterless steaming, we started to pay attention to Vermicular, a premium cast iron pot brand from Japan. Since then we just fell in love with it and introduced its collection into our online shop.
This time we are unboxing the latest Vermicular collection launched in Hong Kong, namely Vermicular Oven Pot Round 26cm Sukiyaki, Vermicular Enamelled Cast Iron Frying Pan 20cm and Vermicular Enamelled Cast Iron Frying Pan 28cm.

Close up of the Vermicular Oven Pot Round 26cm Sukiyaki. Personally the matt black color looks perfect on a larger pot. We also added the 26cm magnetic trivet
Take it out and have a comparison with the Vermicular Oven Pot Round 14cm and Vermicular Oven Pot Round 22cm. The Sukiyaki version is swallower with height of 13cm, whereas the 22cm version being 15cm tall. With a swallower pot, it’s more suitable for hot pot and waterless steaming dishes like steamed prawns. A swallow pot is also good for taking nicer photos of food.

Casted on the lid is “made in Japan” and it’s the quality assurance. The spots on the lid help vapour to re-condense and drop back to the food which can help further retain the juice of food during waterless steaming
And now it comes to the Vermicular Enamelled Cast Iron Frying Pan 20cm. We originally thought that the 20cm pan won’t have a lot of use cases but when we saw the real thing we realized that it’s actually a very versatile pan just like the 14cm round pot especially for making dishes for two! After boiling pasta we can also use this pan to mix it with sauce and serve the pasta directly in this pan.
Last but not least it’s the Vermicular Enamelled Cast Iron Frying Pan 28cm. Seeing the pan we just immediately thought of Paella! It’s also the perfect size if you are going to prepare a dish for 4-6 people. With its long diameter, food can stay inside the pan even during stir frying

Each pot/ pan comes with a nicely designed recipe booklet with user guide and brand story. The usership experience of Vermicular is like collecting fine art pieces!
We immediately tried out the Vermicular Enamelled Cast Iron Frying Pan 20cm and used it to stir fry a broccoli. As the pan is thin, the heat conductivity is excellent and it’s easy to create a thin layer of crisp on food. That’s the secret of making tasty broccoli or cauliflower.
A key advantage of the Vermicular frying pan is its good looking appearance. Even with simple food, if we serve it in a Vermicular pan, the whole vibe is enhanced. It can also help keep the warmth of the food.
