Folks here may notice that Le Creuset is a cookware brand that we like. In this article we are going to share with you our current Le Creuset collection, how we started this Le Creuset journey and stories in this journey.
我們的LC收藏 Our Le Creuset Collection
唔覺唔覺，拎晒出黎曬冷先發現原來都買落左唔少Le Creuset，可以話係入坑不淺了。特別呢1年黎LC勁做減價，唔小心經過又跌左錢 ………
We didn’t realize before but when we took out the whole collection we possess, we have to admit that we are a bit addictive to Le Creuset.
Actually in the beginning it was only Tiara who was interested in LC. Terence thought the products are feminine and not practical at all so he didn’t think it’s a good idea to buy anything from the brand. Chinese cookware is the most pragmatic and the best. So why did we buy our first LC?
The Le Creuset collection story began with this 22cm Marmite. Since secondary school, Tiara has been a fan of Hong Kong cooking blogger using a lot of LC in her recipes. Imbued with such content throughout years, Tiara always dreamed of having a rich husband in the future to support her to build a kingdom of LC collection.
However, Tiara ended up married to Terence who is quite broke. In order to kick start her ambition of building up a LC collection kingdom, Tiara needed to persuade Terence to share the cost. Tiara tried to convince Terence by arguing that the LC cookware is actually very functional. The thick material used in a LC pot provides the pot with excellent heat insulation capability. The heavy lid also helps locking water inside the pot. These features make the pots idea for stewing food and even derive a cooking method called “waterless steaming” which can make the food extra succulent.
It’s because of the functionality (and of course some intimidation by Tiara) that persuaded Terence to agree on paying a part for the first Le Creuset Marmite. After trying Waterless Steamed Chicken Wings with Fermented Bean Curd made by Tiara, there’s nothing to say by Terence but to allow Tiara to continue her journey of Le Creuset collection.
For most of our Le Creuset collection they have white interior made up of enamel so we don’t need to brush a layer of oil on the interior surface to prevent it from getting rusted. Marmite is also available in black enamel interior and with its curvy design of the bottom, it’s ideal for stir-frying food. Yet the one we have here is with white interior. We normally use it like a round Casserole. This white interior version should have now discontinued haha.

After buying the Marmite, Terence learned about the functionality of Le Creuset. Tiara’s ambition of expanding the Le Creuset collection at our home has then become irreversible. Soon, Tiara said that this 22cm Buffet Casserole is ideal for waterless steaming and so she also bought it back home…
The difference with a Marmite / Round Casserrole is its shallow body. For food cooked by waterless steaming it will look nicer (functionality isn’t in considerable anymore). After from waterless steaming, we may also use this for pot dishes like Mapo Tofu and Clams in Sake.
It turned out that our rice cooker was broken. When we were looking for a new one, Tiara said that we could actually use Le Creuset as rice cooker. The rice it cooks is better than that using a normal rice cooker and the price of it is even a bit cheaper. That’s why we also added this Round Casserole into our Le Creuset Collection.
Utilising its advantage of heat insulation and water preserving, the rice cooked by this Round Casserole is plump in texture and less gluey. The mechanism behind is like using a Japanese earthenware pot. Apart from cooking rice, we also use this for making soup occasionally.
This Enamel On Steel Casserole is available in recent years. Functionally we don’t think there is any difference with a normal stock pot. But it was in combo sale with the Round Casserole and it is quite good looking so Tiara has a reason to add it into our Le Creuset collection. The size is quite good for making soup/ congee for 2 so we use it quite often.
It is enamel interior as well. Make sure you don’t clean it with scouring pad.

So we have some basic cookware in place. The next step of Tiara’s Le Creuset collection expansion strategy is to buy some niche cookware and Terence has no say anymore to resist this trend taking place at home. This Le Creuset Skillet Grill Pan is an example of buying specialized cookware. It has black interior and we need to keep it unrusted by brushing a layer of oil on the pan. Of course we have other tableware. This pair of cups is our newlywed gift from Tiara’s colleagues. We use them everyday.
And we have bowls and plates for our cats…
We have heard that these bowls are discontinued
There was a time Terence broke the bowl while washing dishes. He received severe punishment for that.
We also have small items like sauce plates
And other collection of bowls and plates. Using theses tableware to serve the food can indeed beatify the whole dish. That’s also an advantage we like.
Our Le Creuset journey began with pragmatism and evolved into aesthetics pursuit. Now we are heading to a road to Le Creuset collection with no return. But we are happy about that!
